Police chase, crash follow car-to-car shooting in South LA
At least five people were hospitalized Wednesday morning after a car-to-car shooting in South Los Angeles that was followed by a police chase and a crash, authorities said.

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- At least five people were hospitalized Wednesday morning after a series of events that included a car-to-car shooting in South Los Angeles, a police chase and a high-speed crash.

The shooting occurred in the area of 51st and Hoover streets, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. One person was transported from that scene to a hospital with unknown injuries.

Dozens of shell casings littered the street, where a maroon GMC Suburban's windows were blown out on the driver's and passengers' side, as was the rear window.

LAPD officers happened to witness the gunfire, and a pursuit of the suspects ensued, police said. The chase ended about 2 miles away in a violent two-vehicle crash at 67th street and Broadway.

Witnesses told ABC7 that ambulances transported at least four people from the site of the crash, which involved an SUV and a pickup truck. Several others were seen sitting on the sidewalk after being handcuffed by officers. The LAPD later said five suspects were taken into custody.

Police were investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.
