San Bernardino City Hall temporarily closes after earthquake

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- San Bernardino City Hall closed as a precaution after concern about damage from Tuesday's earthquake near Devore.

The building, only 10 miles southeast of the quake's epicenter, was evacuated and inspected following the 4.4 temblor that struck 2 miles south, southwest of Devore at around 5:48 p.m. Several smaller aftershocks were also felt.

A couple of weeks ago, a report came out that said the building, built in the 1970s, needed minor work to be done to make it completely earthquake safe.

Although no damage was found, San Bernardino City Hall was expected to remain closed for the New Year holiday weekend and is set to reopen Monday.

Residents inconvenienced by the closure questioned the decision.

"I guess they're closed because of the earthquake... but, you know, the earthquake wasn't all that bad so I don't understand it," said Gary Miller of Devore.

A 2.7-magnitude earthquake struck 2 miles also south of Devore early Wednesday.
