El Modena family recalls harrowing armed home invasion
A family in El Modena remains on edge after an armed robber held a mother at knifepoint.

EL MODENA, ORANGE (KABC) -- David Hernandez will never forget the moment he walked into his El Modena home to find an intruder holding a knife to his wife's neck.

Hernandez said he walked into the kitchen of his home after dropping his children off at school at about 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

"'Don't cut it, don't cut it,'" Hernandez recalled. "He said, 'Give me money, everything.' I said, 'Take it, let go of my wife.'"

Hernandez said the man, who had his face covered, let his wife go and she ran outside to call 911.

That's when Hernandez said the intruder began punching and trying to stab him. Hernandez grabbed a nearby lamp to protect himself.

Using the lamp, Hernandez pushed the man out of the house. The suspect fled the scene in a black four door sedan with another man, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Hernandez suffered a cut on his face.

"Scary for my wife, with the knife, you know. It's terrible for my family, for my kids," he said.

If you have any information about the home invasion, you're asked to call Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-847-2227.
