NORTH HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A devastated father asked for help finding the suspect who killed his son in the parking lot of a Kentucky Fried Chicken in North Hills on New Year's Eve.

Jorge Reyes Jr. was with friends at the fast food restaurant around 6 p.m. near Balboa Boulevard and Parthenia Street. The suspect was caught on surveillance video, which Los Angeles police released in the hopes someone recognizes him.

The suspect confronted Reyes, who was sitting in his car by himself while his friends were getting food.

"The suspect and Mr. Reyes became involved in an argument. The suspect armed himself with a handgun and shot Mr. Reyes multiple times, causing his death," LAPD Capt. Bryan Lium said.

Along with the suspect, detectives said they're looking for a woman he was with at the time of the murder. She was also captured on surveillance video. Authorities believe the motive for the murder was a look the suspect didn't like.

"Eye contact was made between the suspect and a friend of the victim. It appears at this point actually that it was a perceived disrespect issue and it's as simple as that and as ridiculous as that," Detective Ryan Verna said.

Detectives said the suspect and woman he was with left in an older sedan.

"He broke my family. He broke my heart. If you see him, please call the police," father Jorge Reyes Sr. said as he fought back tears during a press conference.

One theory detectives have is that the pair may not be from the San Fernando Valley. Closer examination of the surveillance video also shows the suspect has a series of tattoos.

Anyone with more information was urged to contact Los Angeles Police.
