Aspiring photographer battling cancer invited to red carpet event
A 7-year-old aspiring photographer diagnosed with a rare kidney cancer had the opportunity to snap celebrities on the red carpet Thursday.

HOLLYWOOD (KABC) -- The Hollywood Foreign Press Association handed out almost $2 million in grants Thursday night. But on the red carpet, Eyewitness News found something priceless.

The red carpet lit up for the red hot Sophia Vergara. Among the photographers snapping her picture, 7-year-old Jacob Angel.

"I just felt like I would never get to be on the red carpet of Hollywood," Jacob said.

But he made it, even managing to do double duty with a microphone, interviewing "Frozen" star Kristen Bell.

Famous faces handed out money left and right to non-profit entertainment-related organizations and scholarship programs.

Sophia announced money for the Pablove Foundation's Shutterbug program for kids with cancer. Jacob attended their summer camp and was selected to be "working press" at this event.

Jacob has been dealing with a rare kidney cancer that primarily affects children, but he's doing okay.

"He's always been very positive, very spiritual, and he always has the strength, he actually passes it to us," Jacob's mom, Deanna Angel said.

"I want to take pictures of interesting things," Jacob said.

Jacob had a kidney removed in March. His last chemo treatment is next month, but doctors say he's got a very strong chance for a full recovery.
