Best-selling novelist Jackie Collins dies of breast cancer at age 77
LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Best-selling novelist Jackie Collins, who wrote about the extravagance and glamour of Hollywood, has died.
Collins died Saturday in Los Angeles after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 77.
For four decades, Collins had millions of fans turning the pages of her racy novels. She had 30 New York Times best sellers, and sold more than 500 million copies of her books.
Collins said she wrote about real people in disguise, giving readers an insider's view of Hollywood's rich and famous. She loved hearing juicy details from people who didn't know she was listening.
Some of her books were adapted for television and film, including "Hollywood Wives," a hit mini-series on ABC in 1983.
Collins battled stage 4 breast cancer for six-and-a-half years, but did not go public with her diagnosis, according to People magazine.
Collins' family released the following statement Saturday:
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the death of our beautiful, dynamic and one of a kind mother, Jackie Collins, who died of breast cancer today. She lived a wonderfully full life and was adored by her family, friends and the millions of readers who she has been entertaining for over 4 decades. She was a true inspiration, a trail blazer for women in fiction and a creative force. She will live on through her characters but we already miss her beyond words.
