Disaster assistance deadline is approaching

LOS ANGELES (KABC) The last day to apply for disaster aid thru the Federal Emergency Management Agency is Wednesday January 9th.

Loans and other forms of aid are available to home and business owners in Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties who suffered losses during the recent firestorms.

In late October, wind-swept wildfires torched 450 homes and burned more than 14,000 acres in San Bernardino County.

Fires in San Diego County charred 370,000 acres, destroyed 1,700 homes, killed at least 10 people and forced the evacuation of hundreds of thousands from their homes.

So far, 18,685 people in Southern California have applied for state and federal disaster assistance, according to FEMA.
