"I was cleaning out my garage last December, and I saw all these books and I was wondering what we were going to do with them," said Cory. "And I thought I should just donate them to a hospital. And then I found out there was a hospital just for kids, so I thought that would be great to donate to Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles."

Cory started the Read for Recovery program to help kids facing what are sometimes scary moments.

"Some kids are waiting for dialysis for hours in chemo, so I thought they may want something to do, and reading is great. So they can spend their time reading," said Cory.

What started as a singular delivery became much more for Cory.

"The first time I did it, and the bibliotherapist there, Claire Austin, she asked me for some more, and I donated some more," said Cory. "And then I did it a third time, and then the third time when I did it I saw what actually happened, it makes me want to do it even more, keep going," said Cory. "It's an ongoing project, so I should go back next month, and then every month from there on."

To the people at Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles, Cory is much more than a teen with a box of books.

"I think what impresses me about Cory is not only his compassion, and doing this for authentically good reasons, but more than that, the initiative he had to set up Reading for Recovery," said Austin.

Then when Cory has time with the little patients, he can see the real results of his work.

"They're sitting in the ER, and I hand them a book, and their eyes light up, and faces," said Cory. "They're so excited. It was a wonderful feeling."

Bringing books full of magic and comfort, Cory Levy is our Cool Kid.
