Gardasil injection has painful reputation

January 4, 2008 12:00:00 AM PST
Gardasil is getting a reputation as a painful injection. In fact, several patients have complained about the shot because it stings shortly after it's given.Merck, the makers of Gardasil, think the sting may come from virus-like particles that are in it. During its first year, there was a rise in reports of pain, but some pediatricians don't believe the "ouch" factor has reduced demand.

Gardasil is the only vaccine that may guard against HPV, which can lead to cervical cancer.
