Man shoots wife, daughter; kills self

ROWLAND HEIGHTS (KABC) Someone from inside the house on the 2400 block of Joel Drive in Rowland Heights made the 911 call, informing the Sheriff's Department that there were gunshot victims inside. That was at approximately 7:25 a.m. Thursday.

According to the Sheriff's Dept., when deputies arrived at the house, the resident couple's 26-year-old daughter had a gunshot wound to the head. She told deputies what had happened.

"According to the daughter, her statement was: 'My father has just shot my mom. He's inside,'" said Lieutenant Gil Carillo, L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. "Inside, we have found that the father has what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Mother and daughter have been transported, airlifted to a hospital. The mother currently is in critical condition, and it appears that the daughter is stable."

Neighbors tell Eyewitness News that the family moved in possibly two years ago, and that they didn't really know them. Those who agreed to talk to us on camera say they never suspected anything was wrong there.

"It's a really quiet neighborhood," said neighbor Jing Xu.

"We were actually pretty shocked to find out what happened today," said neighbor Lincoln Liu. "It's pretty scary. Shocking, actually, because in this neighborhood, you wouldn't expect things like this to happen."

There was a fourth person in the house, according to the Sheriff's Dept.: a 17-year-old foreign-exchange student was in one of the rooms. According to the Sheriff's Dept. she was not injured in Thursday morning's shootings.

Investigators are still trying to put together what led up to Thursday morning's attempted murder-suicide.
