SOUTH L.A. Gladys Park, in the middle of Skid Row, has not been a park where this area's children can play. Cool Kid, Kevin Cedano, wanted to change that.

"Just walking down the street, I saw all of this happening all at once, and kids outside playing in the streets. It made me come up with the idea," said Kevin.

Kevin lives with his family in a small apartment in Skid Row. He took it upon himself to go to police and city officials to change a condition that had become critical.

"The prostitution wouldn't stop in front of the kids. The fighting wouldn't stop in front of the kids. And it happened all over Skid Row, particularly San Julian, and there was no place for them to play that was safe," said Officer Deon Joseph of the LAPD.

He has impressed adults with his passion to make Gladys Park a place where children can be happy and safe.

"He's saying, 'I don't care if I live in Skid Row, where I do see the drugs, where I do see the violence in my neighborhood. I'm going to go to school. I'm going to learn. I'm going to advocate for my community,'" said Jose Huizar of the L.A. City Council.

Kevin likes what he has seen, but he still feels things can be better.

"Like, to clean up the streets, make it cleaner. Give the homeless a place to live so they won't be outside or anything -- things like that," said Kevin.

Having grown up here, Kevin saw all the bad of life on Skid Row. Now he wants to make sure the young ones get the good part of life.

"Little kids make a big future for the world, so if that's going to happen, changes have to happen as well," said Kevin.

Speaking up for his neighborhood and making it better for the next generation, this is our Cool Kid, Kevin Cedano.
