(KABC) --If you have diabetes, you may soon be adding another drug to your treatment. The latest research suggests that doctors give all diabetic patients drugs that are used for lowering cholesterol.British scientists looked at studies where statins were given to diabetics. Statins are drugs like Lipitor and Zocor, which are pills to lower cholesterol. The researchers found that diabetics who took statins had lower risk of heart disease versus those who didn't take them.
Their research suggests that doctors prescribe statins to everyone with diabetes, even if they have no initial signs of heart disease.
