Fugitive arrested after yearlong manhunt

POMONA (KABC) The Pomona man is accused of committing vicious acts, including rape, against his ex-girlfriend and kidnapping his own daughter.

After being on the loose for nearly a year, authorities tracked down 28-year-old Raul Alderete and finally arrested him Thursday in Riverside. Alderete is being held on $4 million bail.

In December, Alderete was accused of breaking into his estranged wife's home and taking his 11-month-old daughter. The child was returned a few days later, but Alderete remained on the run.

Authorities had been searching for Alderete since Feb. 2007 after he allegedly kidnapped an ex-girlfriend and held her captive twice. On the second occasion, police say he took the woman from a hospital. While he held her, he allegedly punched, kicked, tortured, raped, and stabbed her nearly 30 times before the woman finally escaped.

Alderete had been spotted in both Mexico and the U.S. He also spoke to police on several occasions, but never surrendered.

Alderete's facing seven felony counts for spousal abuse, rape, kidnapping, and torture. He made a brief court appearance Friday morning in Pomona. He's scheduled for arraignment next month.
