Study: Firefighters risk more than flames

ORANGE COUNTY (KABC) A new study shows that firefighters are at risk not only from the flames, but because of heat stress and dehydration. The conclusions stem from a weeklong hydration and core body temperature study.

Officials say 91 percent of the participants were dehydrated before the test even began.

The study recommends that firefighters apply cooling measures as soon as possible after intense firefighting tasks to lower their peak core body temperature.
