Plane searched at LAX after threat

LOS ANGELES The Boeing 757 jetliner, which departed from JFK International Airport in New York City, landed shortly after noon and taxied to a remote location at the western end of LAX, said Nancy Castles of Los Angeles World Airports.

There were 71 passengers and crew aboard Flight 23, Castles said.

Laura Eimiller of the FBI said authorities, including explosives experts, were searching the aircraft this afternoon.

"There was a telephonic threat to United Airlines Flight 23," Eimiller said. She declined to elaborate, saying only that the incident was under investigation.
