O.C. Sheriff search could cost $75K

ORANGE COUNTY (KABC) Carona resigned earlier this month. He said he needed to devote his time to helping his lawyers with his defense on federal corruption charges.

Finding a new sheriff outside California may be difficult. The sheriff must be a registered voter in Orange County. However, officials say the person chosen could quickly sign a voter registration form.

Whoever is selected will have to face voters in 2010 to keep the job.

The cost to hire a firm could run up to $75,000.
