'Helicopter Parents' hover too much

(KABC) They're called "helicopter parents" because of how much they hover over their children. They're well-meaning mothers and fathers who do everything they can to make their children's lives easier and successful.

Psychologists say that type of parenting could be harmful because teenagers need to learn coping skills long before they leave home.

"You don't learn resilience, you don't learn independence without tripping up sometimes," said clinical psychologist Mark Crawford. "Don't let yourself panic when you see your kids falling."

Psychologists say making mistakes and learning from them early on is often the best way to avoid them in the future.
