San Jose looks into 'Little Saigon' vote

SAN JOSE, Calif. Councilman Forrest Williams said this week that he promised his support to Councilwoman Madison Nguyen before the council's November vote to call the retail area the Saigon Business District.

Williams and Nguyen insist they did not violate the city's open-meeting law, but City Attorney Richard Doyle says he will investigate. The council may have to vote on the issue again if a violation occurred.

The decision to name the business district has angered Vietnamese community members who want the name "Little Saigon." Protesters have been calling for Nguyen to resign and threatening a recall campaign if she doesn't.
