Embattled CHP commissioner resigns

California Highway Patrol Commissioner Mike Brown has resigned.Brown has been under increasing pressure from state lawmakers who have called him an ineffective leader and criticized his oversight of the CHP.

In a letter Tuesday, Brown cited family considerations for stepping down.

Brown was appointed to the position in 2004. He's expected to return to his former rank as chief.

Governor Schwarzenegger has appointed Deputy Commissioner Joseph Farrow to replace Brown. Farrow will take over Mar. 1.
