Police seek driver in deadly hit-and-run

WEST COVINA Police say there were a lot of people who witnessed the hit-and-run Wednesday night, but none of them have been able to identify the driver of the car. The suspect is still at large.

A woman was struck while crossing Francisquito Ave. in West Covina around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim was in the middle of the street when a car came speeding through and struck her head on. Police say she was not in a crosswalk when she was hit just west of Broadmoor Ave.

There was a crowd at a nearby bus stop that immediately went to her aid. People say those people were so shocked by what had just happened that none of them actually noticed the driver flee the scene.

At least one witness reported a maroon colored Chevy pickup speeding away from the scene.

The victim in the incident died at the hospital. She has not yet been identified.

Police say she had so many injuries to her face that they couldn't even tell what race she was. It appears she was about 40 years old, 140 pounds with dark hair that was dyed blond.

If you have any information on the driver or the car involved in this hit-and-run you're urged to call the West Covina Police Department at (626) 939-8557.
