This week's Cool Kid is using his experience to give back to his community by helping kids younger than him stay focused on school. Staying in the same part of Los Angeles where he grew up, our Cool Kid Jaime Zendejas opens young minds to how much they can do.

"Everybody has a good imagination, and they have creativity, and I want them to use it wisely," says Jaime. "I don't want to see them painting on the walls illegally, I want to see them putting it on a canvas."

Working with the After School All Stars-Los Angeles, Jaime has returned to his alma mater. At Thomas A. Edison Middle School he tutors everything from math to art. No matter the subject, a simple thought drives him to offer all he can to these kids.

"Just knowing that these kids have somewhere to go and spend their time, have somebody to talk to, and just being part of their lives gives me a warm feeling, just helping out the community," says Jaime.

His connection to the neighborhood shines through to those who supervise the program.

"He motivates them based on his personal life base that he grew within the community, and he could really touch on that aspect with the kids, so the kids follow him because he's just so giving," says site coordinator Catalina Hernandez.

Jaime's work here has given him a clear vision of his future.

"I started working with the program, and there's a certain bond between the instructor, the staff and the students, so that kind of builds me up to wanting to teach," says Jaime.

Enriching minds in his community and beyond, he is our Cool Kid, Jaime Zendejas.
