Human Society sues govt. over loophole

The lawsuit says a U.S. Department of Agriculture rule change made in July allows some sick and crippled cows into the food supply if they appear otherwise healthy. In 2004, the government tightened regulations after a case of mad cow disease was found in Washington State.

On Feb. 17, the USDA issued the largest beef recall in U.S. history after the Society released undercover video showing workers shoving sick and crippled cows into slaughter at a Chino company.
