Hollywood sign could get a neighbor

HOLLYWOOD The organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, wants to rent the 1,800-foot Cahuenga Peak next to the Hollywood sign to put up its own sign.

The sign would say "GO VEG" in 45-foot-tall letters.

PETA says it can't afford to buy the land for the $22 million asking price, so it wants to rent the space until the land is sold.

The company that handles the property says it has not received a proposal yet.
