Orange County hospital under investigation

ORANGE The hospital issued a statement last week acknowledging that an elective operation was done on a patient's right knee instead of the left.

It's not the first operation at Saint Joseph that's been botched.

In 2006, a surgeon drilled into the wrong side of a patient's head to remove a brain tumor, and last year an ear tube was placed in the wrong ear.

A hospital spokesperson is not specifically commenting on the incidents, only saying there were no other complications from errors.

The hospital's chief medical officer says they have begun a top to bottom training program on operating room procedures.
