Oldest living Texan dead at 114

DALLAS Arbella Ewings had just celebrated her 114th birthday on March 13th with speeches from friends and family and a proclamation from the mayor of Dallas. But she warned those at the party that she wouldn't be around much longer.

Ewings died yesterday at a retirement home.

The home's executive director tells the Dallas Morning News that it was a "blessing" that Ewings "went so peacefully."

Ewings' great-grandniece says Ewings' secret to long life was spending "six months minding her own business and six months leaving other people alone."

Ewings' only surviving sibling, Annie Lee Perkins, is 103.
