Easter heat wave breaks records

MANHATTAN BEACH Along the coasts of Santa Monica, Manhattan, Long Beach, and Venice, the high heat coupled with very low humidity made for near desert-like conditions.

The temperature in the water, however, was still a cool 54 degrees, providing good relief for hot beachgoers.

"I'm from New Hampshire. It's cold and snowy back there but in California it's gorgeous, sunny, and hot," said a woman visiting Manhattan Beach.

"It's a blessed day, Easter Sunday. You can't get any better than this," said a man, taking a bite of his fast-melting ice cream.

Open space was limited at Griffith Park where many people were out barbecuing.

It will remain warm in most parts of the Southland through the week, but not quite as hot as Sunday.
