The L.A. City Council has gone on record, asking the federal government to stop raiding medical marijuana clinics. There are 183 registered dipensaries in the city of Los Angeles.

The medicinal use of marijuana was legalized by Prop 215 in 1996, but it is not allowed under federal law.

The Drug Enforcement Administration has raided several dispensaries and threatened many others with criminal prosecution.

By a 9 to 1 vote, the City Council Wednesday gave its support to a state resolution that asks the federal government to recognize and respect the California law.
