Freeway sign to remember 4 CHP officers

VALENCIA Officers George Alleyn, Walt Frago, Roger Gore and James Pence were killed in shootout with two men on April 6, 1970, in what is now called the Newhall Incident.

All four officers were married with children.

Many attended the unveiling of the new freeway sign Friday that marks a portion of the freeway now named after the officers.

"My father was Roger, but his picture never stands alone. He always is viewed with all four of these men, so I don't have just one father, I have four," said Elyse Taylor, daughter of Roger Gore.
