Midsize cars score well in crash tests

Crash tests show that several makes and models of midsize cars are doing much better in withstanding side-impact crashes.The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says side airbags and better car designs are the reasons for the improvement.

The cars that did best in front-end and side-impact crashes are the 2008 Mitsubishi Galant, Chevrolet Malibu, Saturn Aura, Dodge Avenger, Nissan Altima, and the Infiniti G-35. The 2008 Kia Optima had the highest score in front-end tests and the second highest in the side-impact test.
