Midsize cars score well in crash tests

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says side airbags and better car designs are the reasons for the improvement.

The cars that did best in front-end and side-impact crashes are the 2008 Mitsubishi Galant, Chevrolet Malibu, Saturn Aura, Dodge Avenger, Nissan Altima, and the Infiniti G-35. The 2008 Kia Optima had the highest score in front-end tests and the second highest in the side-impact test.
