At Friday's council meeting, Dennis Zine is expected to introduce a motion to amend Special Order 40. The LAPD policy prohibits officers from questioning or arresting suspects based only on their immigration status. Zine wants them to be allowed to notify federal immigration authorities of known gang members who shouldn't be in the U.S.
Zine's motion comes on the heels of the murder of Jamiel Shaw, Jr. The high school football star was shot and killed by a suspected gang member who may have been in the country illegally.
