Driving with pet in front may be banned

SACRAMENTO The law would stop people from driving with their pets in the passenger seat. It would also make it an infraction for someone to drive with an animal in their arms or lap.

A recent AAA study ranked pets as a bigger distraction for drivers than cell phone use, eating or drinking.

Opponents of the proposed law say pet owners should be able to train their animals so they don't pose a problem behind the wheel.
