DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES --
L.A. janitors are back at work Friday morning under a "cooling off" period negotiated by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.Hundreds of janitors, represented by the Service Employees International Union, went on strike Wednesday night.
But while they were picketing the building owners' headquarters Thursday, the two sides met with Villairagosa and agreed to resume negotiations.
The union says the main issue is a salary gap that gives janitors in downtown Los Angeles and Century City larger paychecks than janitors in other areas.
