Flu vaccine makers to set new doses record

LOS ANGELES That's despite the fact that this year's flu vaccine was somewhat ineffective.

The five companies that make the flu vaccine for the U.S. plan to make at least 143 million doses for the season.

They made 140 million this year. Part of the problem this year: the vaccine didn't work that well against the viruses that ended up circulating.

Each year, health officials try to guess which strains will be more prevalent, unfortunately, this year two of the three strains weren't a good match.

One flu maker says next year's shots should be better, due in part, to a complete makeover of the vaccine.
