Authorities say the officers were assisting a driver that had crashed and had pulled over on the right shoulder when a blue Mustang convertible crashed into the patrol car at a high rate of speed. The driver is suspected of driving under the influence.
Officers suffered only minor injuries.
Several northbound lanes of the freeway were shut down for more than two hours following the collision.
