L.A. building fire kills 1, injures 2

SOUTH LOS ANGELES Firefighters responded to a small commercial building that also served as a residence on the 5700 block of South Morgan Avenue.

Officials said a woman in her 40s was killed, a man was seriously burned and a 17-year-old girl was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

High winds pushed the flames from the building into nearby palm trees, threatening other structures, but the quick actions of firefighters prevented that. The fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
