Detroit zoo worker attacked by lioness

DETROIT Officials said the lions were being put back into their living enclosure when one of them bit and scratched an employee.

The lioness was subdued with pepper spray, and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but will not need surgery.

The park was not open to visitors at the time of the attack, and the lion never left a secure area inside the building, authorities said.

The injured worker is described as an experienced zoo keeper. The zoo will be open as usual Sunday.
