The suspect refused to stop, and police began pursuing the suspect shortly after 5 p.m.
The driver led police on a chase through surface streets in South L.A., onto the 110 and 105 freeways and ending up in Whittier.
The suspect eventually gave up at approximately 5:30 p.m. and pulled over, surrendering to police without further incident. The driver was caught near the intersection of Pioneer and Washington boulevards.
The suspect will reportedly be charged with driving under the influence, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, and felony evasion.
