Several NorCal homes destroyed in fires

STOCKTON A fire in Palermo, just north of Sacramento, has destroyed at least 21 homes and 30 other structures. The blaze, which has grown to nearly two-square miles, prompted temporary evacuation orders.

Several fires along Interstate 5 in Stockton damaged or destroyed about 30 homes before firefighters were able to knock them down.

Meanwhile, a firefighter battling a grass fire just south of Sacramento suffered serious burns when the flames changed direction.
