Graduation rates down for LAUSD

LOS ANGELES According to research at UC Santa Barbara, as few as 48 percent of teenagers graduate from Los Angeles Unified School District high schools.

Officials say the reason may be the state high school exit exam.

But, "the California dropout research study" also found that magnet schools, strong middle schools and other recent efforts are the best way to increase graduation efforts.
