Orange County officer shot at Anaheim hotel

ANAHEIM The officer was not badly hurt and was expected to be released from a hospital within hours, said police Sgt. Rick Martinez.

Two officers arrived at the motel about a mile from Disneyland shortly before 8 a.m. after complaints that a man in one of the rooms was exposing himself to children and adults.

"They made contact with a guy believed to be the individual," Martinez said. "He was in the parking lot getting in a small compact-type vehicle."

Martinez said shots rang out as the man, in his 40s, drove off.

"At least one of the officers fired at the vehicle," Martinez said. "We don't know if we hit the suspect. We believe the car he was driving may have a bullet hole in the back window or the back window may be shattered out."

The case remained under investigation, with police interviewing witnesses and checking motel records.
