DWP brings back toilet-to-tap for L.A.

LOS ANGELES Los Angeles leaders killed the so-called toilet-to-tap proposal eight years ago amid debate over the plan's safety.

The DWP has said since then that the technology used to recycle water has been improved.

Orange County is already using a toilet-to-tap system. Last year, it opened the world's largest plant dedicated to indirect "potable reuse."

Los Angeles is still years away, and it could be about 2018 by the time the DWP finishes studies, the plan is approved and a plant is built.
