Officials question safety of artificial turf

The problem is the potential of lead exposure. The CDC is recommending testing fields that look worn.

The guidelines come after New Jersey health officials found unexpectedly high lead levels in three athletic fields.

The CDC reports so far no cases of elevated lead levels in children linked to fake grass. The artificial turf industry says the lead used to color turf is safe because it's encapsulated within the blades.
