MTA discusses new tax increase for L.A.

June 26, 2008 5:47:00 AM PDT
A new tax for the MTA may be on the November ballot. The transit authority's Board of Directors is meeting Thursday to discuss requesting the new tax increase.

It would be a half-cent sales tax that would provide funding for rail, bus and freeway projects including the green line extension to LAX.

L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa supports the tax, but it's opposed by L.A. Supervisor Dan Knabe, who says now isn't the time to burden L.A. County residents with yet another tax increase.
