Employers give healthy living gift cards

LOS ANGELES Studies show employees who are obese or smoke miss more work days each year than their normal weight, non-smoking counterparts.

A new survey of 225 American companies finds 71 percent offer gift cards, cash bonuses, or a reduction in health premium costs to employees who complete health and wellness programs.

And the effort is paying off - 80 percent of the companies say they earn back the money through reduced health costs and increased worker productivity.
