Police chase ends with death, evacuation

SAN BERNARDINO Sheriff's deputies said they were involved in a pursuit at around 1:45 a.m. that lasted about two minutes before the suspect lost control of the car and plowed into an apartment building on East Lynwood Drive.

Deputies say both the driver and passenger were ejected.

The passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but the driver did not survive.

The apartment building had to be evacuated because the collision caused a gas line to break.

Police have not yet said why the pursuit began in the first place.
