Alcohol's impact on heart differs by gender

LOS ANGELES Japanese researchers surveyed 83,000 adults.

They say men who drank four or more alcoholic beverages per day had a lower risk of dying from heart disease compared to men who didn't drink.

But for women who drank the same amount, alcohol was associated with a four fold increase in heart disease death.

But before men decide to indulge, experts say few doctors would ever recommend men drink four plus alcohol drinks per day to reduce heart risk.
