Getting a mammogram is crucial in the early detection of breast cancer, but nearly a third of women aren't getting them. Why?Some say getting a mammogram is just too painful. Research shows that nearly 35 percent of women say they experience pain during a mammogram.
For some: just anticipating it makes the pain worse. So scientists tested out a lidocaine gel to see if that would help lessen the pain.
They gave some women placebos, some ibuprofen and others got the lidocaine gel. The lidocaine gel reduced average discomfort by 20 percent.
