Plan to improve 405-101 interchange

SHERMAN OAKS Motorists trying to get from the southbound 405 Freeway to the 101 often face a long backup, but there's a new plan to get cars moving.

The proposal would expand the on- and off-ramps on the southbound 405 Freeway at the 101 in Sherman Oaks. Caltrans has received final environmental approval to begin construction.

The plan is to create high speed elevated connectors between the freeways. They would replace the clogged one lane connectors where speeds are about two miles an hour during peak travel time.

If Caltrans receives the funding for the project, it would take four years to complete.
