L.A. taxi fare to go up at end of week

LOS ANGELES The Board of Taxicab Commissioners has approved an ordinance raising fares by 10 percent.

The rate increase takes effect by the end of the week.

The commission president says the rate hike is necessary due to high gas prices and other operating expenses.

A cab ride from downtown L.A. to LAX will go from $42 up to $46.50, and the distance charge increases from $2.45 to $2.70 a mile.
