Border Governors Conference goes green

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger officially opened the Border Governors Conference Wednesday. The theme of this year's conference is "building green economies."

The governors will look at environmental issues facing the 10 U.S. and Mexican border-states. Schwarzenegger hopes to address issues such as increasing environmental protection, fighting climate change and building commerce between the border-states.

Both sides of the border will be present to display products at the conference's first Green Tech Expo.

"Since we are leaders in green technology and in protecting the environment, holding back our greenhouse gas emissions and protecting our waters and all those issues, we, of course, want to use that also with our relationship with Mexico and other states," Schwarzenegger said.

California's first lady, Maria Shriver, will also attend the conference Thursday morning to moderate a panel on human trafficking. There will be experts from the U.S. and Mexico, including leaders in law enforcement and human rights.

In addition, the issue of border security will be addressed in a Governors Roundtable Discussion. The conference will wrap up Friday.
